Reserve a tour of Prague castle with a local guide and English speaking driver to explore this historic area.
Prague Castle is actually a complex of buildings built on the remains of a single original fortification. At its center is the Gothic St. Vitus’s cathedral, surrounded by palaces, churches, bastions, gardens and houses.
The largest castle in central Europe was founded by prince Borivoj around 880 AD. Its reputation grew when it became the residence of Emperor Charles IV, and the center of European diplomacy and arts.
In the 20th century, Josip Plecnik, architect of the first Czechoslovak president T.G.Masaryk, was commissioned to introduce a new look to this ancient stronghold.
The tour consists of two parts. In the first we visit Upper Hradcany (above the complex itself). This area includes the 12th century Strahov Monastery with its Baroque library, and the pilgrimage church of Loreto with its 13-bell carillon.
In the second part we will explore Prague Castle, St.Vitus Cathedral and the Old Royal Palace. You will also see the Romanesque St. George’s Basilica as well as 'Golden Lane' – a row of tiny houses inhabited by artisans and craftsmen.
